A Little About Me Hi everyone and welcome to my website! My name is Anna Lang and I am a sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina and I am majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in English as a second language. I work at UNCW as a Seahawk Link, an Orientation Leader, and as a Lobby Desk Attendant at the Campus Rec Center.
Originally, I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and I moved to the States about nine years ago when I was 11-years-old. Being born and raised in South Africa is a major part of my life and I carry it with me in everything that I do. I owe my experience of living there to the reason why I want to major in Elementary Education. My goal is to travel to underprivileged countries around the world and teach English where it is needed. I absolutely love UNC Wilmington and choosing to attend this beautiful school is one of the best decisions I have ever made and I am so glad that all of you have chosen it too! I chose UNCW because of it's location, the great education program it has, and because my older sister, Emma goes here too. The reasons why I love UNC Wilmington so much is because we are very community based; it feels like the whole school is one giant family! I also love it here because of our location. We have the gorgeous Wrightsville Beach and the Historic Downtown, both just minutes away from campus! What could be better? There are so many awesome traditions at UNCW but my favorite has to be Oozeball! Oozeball is an annual mud volleyball tournament put on by the Student Ambassadors. It is so much fun to play, roll around in the mud, and forget about all the stress you have about tests or assignments! My favorite place to study is the third floor of the Watson Education Building because it is the most beautiful building on campus and is a great, quiet place to study. Maybe I'm a little biased but I know I'm not the only one that thinks it's beautiful! I highly recommend you go inside and take a look! |
My Advice To You...Even though I am involved in three different positions here at UNC Wilmington, at the beginning of the school year I was terrified of being away from home and living on my own at college. I lived off-campus my first year in an apartment with three other random roommates who were all freshmen too. It all ended up working out great because those roommates became my best friends and I got myself involved. Putting yourself out there is sometimes scary and intimidating but it will be the best move for you, I promise. Being a freshmen in college is a lot like starting a whole new life for yourself, and in that new life, you cannot just sit idly by and watch, you have to get in there! Getting involved expands your friend group, improves your skills with working with people, adds to resumes and so much more! So go ahead and apply for that job, join that sorority/fraternity, be a part of that club! You'll be happy you did!
